Western bit Correctional mouthpieceThis Western Bit mouthpiece is one of the stronger mouthpieces you can buy. The reason for that is the area where the port and mouth bar come together will dig into the horses lower jaw and become the strongest point of pressure. Western bits -Riders often think that a higher port can be harsh to a horse but actually if the port is only an inch and a half tall it is considered tongue relief. If Western Bit is any lower it is considered tongue pressure. If the Western Bit we use has tongue pressure and digging into the jaw it may be too harsh and severe. If the port is taller and is more than an inch and a half tall the lower connection between the mouthpiece and mouth bar it defeats the purpose of the port because the port is weaker than the lower connection that digs into the lower jaw. For the curb chain it gives you more leverage in the mouth making the mouth be stronger in this instance a bit that's designed with a lower connection between the mouth bar and the port if it is round it gives the top of the port and the back of the curb chain more of the correction and allows the horse to give to the Western bit much easier. The horse is a fight and flight animal and he goes into pain before he goes away so if the lower part of the connection in this bit digs into the jaw. the first reaction for the horse is to push on the bit instead of give to the Western bit
This is just an overview of the mouthpiece .We cover the cheek pieces and the difference in purchases and the length of A western shank.
