Dave Robart
World Champion, Dave Robart has spent his entire life around horses. Dave, is a fourth generation horse trainer. Dave's father, Dink, trained and also rode race horses as a jockey. Dave spent much of his childhood on Roy Rogers ranch where his father trained Rogers race horses. When Dave was just 11 years old he started exercising race horses on the bush tracks in California. Dave always seemed to have a special way with problem horses. He had the uncanny ability to cool out unruly race horses that other handlers refused to work with. Dave began breaking horses with his father in his early teens. Dave opened his own training center in 1985 at the young age of 23, where he was quickly recognized for his work in solving behavior problems in horses. Because Dave was willing to work with all breeds and disciplines, other professional horse trainers would send horses for Dave to work on problem areas they could not deal with. Dave also achieved national and regional titles showing in many disciplines and breeds.
Robart Pinchless Bits were designed and patented by Dave and his wife Glenice Robart. They combined their years of experience in working with animals and behavior problems. Dave's wife Glenice, trained Service Dogs for the physically disabled. The Robarts found that by using positive reinforcement, and products they designed, they were able to train animals faster and more efficiently then when using only negatives. They believed that both positive and negative techniques were much more productive and efficient in the learning and training process. They then developed the "Reward Bit." With the "Reward Bit" the rider could release a small amount of diluted molasses through a hand held bulb into the horse's mouth while still in the saddle. The "Reward" bit mouthpiece has a pin size hole attached to a small diameter tubing is that is then sewn into reins which attach to a plastic bottle. The rider squeezes a hand bulb that releases the diluted molasses into the horses mouth. The Robarts worked with many show horses to improve performance with the Reward Bit. They also worked with the Denver Mounted Patrol to desensitize horses to various fears such as the sound of gun fire. The Robarts were written up in the Denver Post, Rocky MT News and many other news publications for their work using positive reinforcement in their training methods. Paul Harvey talked favorably of Dave Robart on his national radio show. Dave began to study and research horse equipment that he felt could be improved for the horse and rider, using the horses thought process to refines his techniques and equipment.
It was through working with hundreds of horses with problem behaviors that The "Pinchless Bits" were developed. Dave realized that a majority of problems were traceable back to the horse's mouth, sometimes from being mishandled or from a damaged mouth caused by the use of the poorly designed bits. Dave continued researching and building bits to improve the problem behaviors he encountered. The "Pinchless Bits" were designed after years of studying conventional bits and trying to solve problems that were as individual as each horse."The hundreds of problem horses I worked with actually gave me the insight to develop these bits" said Dave Robart
Dave has 20 years of experience training horses and 10 years of researching behavior problems in horses. The "Pinchless Bit" prevents and eliminates mouth behavior problems such as gapping, head tossing, excessive mouth movement, dropping shoulders, heavy on the forehand and many others. The Robarts currently hold three patents and copyrights several horse products they developed, as well as several patents pending.
Dave frequently gives clinics for novice as well as experienced horse owners on bits, and biting, training techniques, long lining, tracing behavior problems and understanding body language using his own equipment to show cause and effect.
